Rival Candidates Carter and Hamby to Speak at Democratic Women’s Club

03/17/08

Both Roy Carter and Diane Hamby, rival candidates in the May 6 Democratic primary for the Fifth District Congressional race, will be featured speakers at the March 26 Democratic Women’s Club luncheon at the Broyhill Inn & Conference Center.

The winner in the May primary will be on the general election ballot in November challenging incumbent Republican Virginia Foxx.

Carter recently retired from coaching high school football in Wilkes County and is a Christmas tree farmer in Ashe County. He is a native of the western North Carolina mountains and has taught and coached in several mountain towns. He is married and has three adult children and two grandchildren.

Hamby was an Iredell County Commissioner, the last Democrat elected to that board since the mid-1990s. She has held many offices in the Iredell County Democratic Party, including county chair. She is currently a partner in D & T Painting Co.

The Democratic Women’s Club will gather at 11:30 a.m. on March 26 for a dutch-treat luncheon, to be followed by the two speakers at noon.

All Democratic women and men are welcomed, along with their guests. Reservations are strongly suggested so that adequate seating can be arranged. Call 264-4013 or write trokoske@yahoo.com.
