The Watauga County
Democratic Party will hold its annual Fall Rally at the (old) Watauga High
School on Saturday, October 3, with a barbecue dinner (with both pork and
vegetarian options) starting at 5 p.m.
The planned
activities will highlight a live auction of goods or services donated by
Democratic elected officials, including “internships for a day” in the state
Senate and House, with lunch in the Members Dining Room (donated by Sen. Steve
Goss and Rep. Cullie Tarleton).
Among other donated
services by elected officials will be a day tour of historic Poga, Tenn.,
with lunch out with Boone Mayor Loretta Clawson; a “dessert of the month” from
Boone Town Councilwoman Jamie Leigh; an antique book appraisal from Watauga
County School Board member Marsha Walpole; a half-day of yard work by Boone
Town Councilman Rennie Brantz; a Fall horseback trail-ride and picnic lunch in
Ashe County with Andy Ball, candidate for Boone Town Council; and other goods
and services.
Democratic precinct
committees will also be offering special theme “gift baskets” in a silent
auction. Some of those include “Health, Happiness and Wellness,” “Bird Lovers,”
“Cows,” “Southern Seasons Deluxe Gourmet Party Basket,” “Autumn,” “Gift
Wrapping,” “Tailgating,” “Dogs,” “Preserving Our Heritage,” “Winter Eve in
Blowing Rock,” and “Books,” put together, respectively, by the following
precincts: Blue Ridge; New River 2; Meat Camp; Watauga; Boone 1; Elk; Cove
Creek, Brushy Fork & Laurel Creek; New River 3; Stony Fork; Blowing Rock;
and Boone 2.
Speakers at the
rally will include Democratic candidates for Boone Town Council: Mayor Loretta
Clawson, council members Rennie Brantz and Jamie Leigh, and Andy Ball, who is
running for an open seat.
The dinner will
feature both vegetarian and pork barbecue, side dishes, and homemade desserts.
Dinner service will go from 5-7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.
Tickets are $10 each
and can be obtained from any Democratic precinct officer (complete list of
officers available on-line: http://www.wataugadems.com/1party/officers.html)
or by calling 828-264-9955 or 828-262-5119 or writing jww@boone.net. Tickets are also available at
the Appalachian Antique Mall in downtown Boone and will be available at the
door on the evening of October 3rd.
This is a “zero
waste” event.
