State Senator Steve Goss announced this morning
that he is asking North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper to launch an
investigation into the lingering gas shortage in Northwestern
North Carolina.
Goss explained, “People deserve some answers as to
why it is taking so long to bring the gasoline distribution back up to normal
levels. Our people are suffering
economically under normal circumstances, and the continuing gas shortage is
adding to their woes.”
Goss continued, “We also need some explanation as
to why the price of gasoline at the pump has not decreased more rapidly. Understanding that there is a delay of
several weeks for the wholesale price of gasoline to be reflected at the pump,
I believe that 4-6 weeks of decreasing wholesale prices have not been passed
along properly to the public. The wholesale price of gasoline this past week
dropped to less than $2.25 per gallon. With the normal difference between
wholesale and retail prices being 65 to 70 cents, we
might expect the price at the pump to be much lower by now.”
