Who may register to vote?

The criteria are simple. You must be:

  • a US citizen,

  • a resident of North Carolina,

  • 18 years old or older on or before election day

There is no waiting period to be eligible to register to vote. If you have just moved to Watauga County, you may register to vote as soon as you move into your new home.

How can I register to vote?
In Person:
You may register at the Democratic Headquarters at 352 West King Street or go to the Watauga County Board of Elections (across from the Sheriff's department in Boone, behind the old library) and register. You will be asked for your full name, your mailing address and street address, and your date and state of birth. You do not have to have a driver's license to register.

At Motor Vehicles:
You can go to Motor Vehicles and register there. Keep your receipt until you receive confirmation from your local election official. If you do not receive any confirmation, please contact your local election office to verify your voting status.

What should I do if I've changed my address since I registered?
If you have moved within Watauga County, go to the Watauga County Board of Elections to fill out a change of address form.

Are there deadlines for registration?
The deadline for voter registration is 5pm Friday, October 8th, 2004.
